Understand how to adapt writing for different academic challenges by analyzing various patterns of composition. This course explores the unique structures and uses of narrative, descriptive, compare and contrast, and persuasive writing. You will also learn to identify the correct application of technical details in professional writing, including rules for capitalization, hyphens, and abbreviations. By the end of this course, you will be able to recognize the appropriate compositional style for a given purpose and evaluate writing for its structural and technical correctness.

This course will concentrate on patterns of writing. We will explore the basic structures of various writing genres (and their unique differences), including narrative, compare and contrast, persuasive, and research essay styles. We will also explore and practice the rules of proper capitalization, character styles, and the correct usage of abbreviations and hyphens in professional and academic writing.
